Challenges and obstacles facing top 300 women leaders and business owners
Women are reluctant to showcase their achievements
Women still earn significantly less money than men and remain markedly underrepresented in high-status, powerful positions
While 65 per cent of men report having an account at a formal financial institution, only 58 per cent of women do worldwide
Women tend to wrap up talking about their achievements in a “we” and collaborative form and tend to downplay achievements. Men tend to talk up their achievements as down to their own abilities and are more overtly ambitious about their aims.
In more than 90% of training for small business and startups that I have attended, when men introduce themselves, they begin with their full names, then titles, and they do not even mention that they have a family. Women, on the other hand, start by stating that they are mothers, then give only a first name, and their title or position usually comes last.
As of 2018, it is estimated that there are over 12.3 million women-owned businesses in the United States
